The Ford Cougar is a coupe that is classified as a coupe which is medium in size. It was sold in Europe from 1999 through 2002. The name for this car is based off the Mercury Cougar, another car which is produced by Ford. The company originally planned for this car to be a newer version of the Probe, but the Cougar was chosen as an alternative. The introduction of the Cougar was the second time that Ford designed a car for the European market.
When the Cougar was first showcased in 1998, it got reviews which were mixed. Many of the negative reviews were a result of the New Edge design, which was applied to many Ford vehicles during at the time. The sales for the Cougar were less than stellar, even though it was reported as being a car “built for drivers.” The Cougar would come with one of two engines, and these were either the 2.5L Duratec engine or the 2.0L Zetec engine. The engines also came with one of two specifications, and these were either the Ghia X or Mondeo Ghia.
The Cougar was eventually discontinued in Europe when the newer Mondeo
replaced the older model. There were a number of things which hurt sales in Europe, and two of these were the price tag and the prestige of the vehicle. The BMW 3-Series was placed in the same category, but it was highly successful. This showed that there was a market for sports compact cars. The Cougar comes in the form of a coupe with two doors. While this car was manufactured in both the U.S. and Europe, it was sold in the U.S. with the name Mercury Cougar.
It should be noted that the American version of the Cougar was not a success, and just as with Europe, the car was finally discontinued. The Cougar is closely related to the Ford Mondeo and Ford Contour.
