The Ford Fusion is a car which is medium in size, and it was first produced by Ford in 2006. It uses the Ford CD3 platform, and it is produced at the company’s plant in Hermosillo, Mexico. The tagline for this car is “Life in Drive” in the United States. In Canada, Ford uses the tagline “Create a Reaction.” The Fusion is basically a medium sized sedan. It comes with four doors, and it utilizes a FF layout. It can come with one of two engines, and these are the 3.0L Duratec V6, or the 2.3L Duratec 2314.
The Ford Fusion can also come with three transmission types, and these are the five speed manual, the five speed automatic, and the six speed Asian automatic. The introduction of the Fusion marked the first time that the company used a three bar grille for its car design. The company has stated
that they will use this look on all their vehicles for the next 5 years. Ford has also made plans to produce a maximum of 200,000 models per year. So far, the company sold 142,502 models in 2006.
The suspension for this car was modified to be more compliant. The company originally planned to name the car the “Futura,” but a lawsuit from Pep Boys forced the company to use a different name. The body design for the Fusion has also been used for many Ford NASCAR vehicles. The consumer response for the Fusion has been overwhelmingly positive. During the first quarter of 2006, the company sold over 25,000 models, and the car has also been given the North American Car of the Year award.
It should be noted that the Ford Fusion uses a Japanese style of design. While a portion of the car is curvy, the front portion appears to be sharper. Because Japanese automakers have recently begun to surpass their American counterparts, the design of the Fusion may be meant to mirror many Japanese design techniques.
